Training in Coding
On October 7 8, Data MATRIX staff took part in the ACDM Coding SIG and UMC’s WHO Drug Dictionary meetings in London.
The first day included a meeting of specialists in coding with the use of MedDRA (a dictionary of international medical terminology). The participants were generally coding specialists representing pharmaceutical companies (Roche, GSK, Bayer, Biogen, etc.) and CROs, and members of the Association for Clinical Data Management. Data MATRIX colleagues were the only clinical data managers and participants from Russia. The organizers highlighted this at the beginning of the meeting, since Russian companies had not been represented at such meetings before. The WHO Drug Dictionary (medicinal products coding) user group meeting was arranged by representatives of Uppsala Monitoring Center — a global pharmacovigilance center launching the WHO Drug Dictionary on the world market.
Data MATRIX uses both the MedDRA and the WhoDRUG in the trials, and therefore both training meetings discussing the improvement of the coding quality were of great value.
